The Dromana Community Garden (DCG) is an open space for all members of the local community to gather and grow together, enjoy fresh produce, learn from one another sustainable and regenerative practices, utilise and share skill sets and provide opportunity for people to learn how to grow, harvest and process fresh fruits and vegetables.
Members: Provide social benefits through connection and participation, providing a space to grow food together increasing food security.
Public: Reducing carbon footprint through the use of local food production; educational outcomes for school groups and local clubs. Being in a sporting precinct, the site lends itself to public visitation and high visibility to a wide range of the community sector. It provides easy access for local residents to productive open space and community interaction.
Local government: Effective use of public open space providing a multi-use space for workshops, food shares etc; increased local food security, community resilience, social cohesion, promoting awareness and access to local
The community garden serve as a place of demonstration and education for people new to gardening and those needing to adapt their gardens for their changing circumstances.
Our future goals and tasks include;
Develop an active membership base and interest group
Seek funding opportunities for materials
Construction of hard landscape accessible paths and a truck to mulch bay entrance
Planting perennials like trees, shrubs around the path edge
Building more accessible raised garden beds
Host workshops and public events
With a generous $3000 sponsorship for the 2026 Scarecrow and Garden Art Festival, we are currenlty planning a two day event in October
